FAQs

FAQs for UK and overseas visitors to the National Honey Show.

A day visitor pass cost £18 and can be purchased online here or at the National Honey Show reception desk on the day of your visit. National Honey Show Members get in FREE for all three days.

Firstly you need a copy of the schedule. The schedule will list all the competitive classes that can be entered. Read the schedule carefully and make sure you understand all the rules and regulations. Remember everything you need to know will be in the schedule!

No. Only National Honey Show members and those with valid day tickets can attend lectures and book into workshops and/or demonstrations. Also see Workshop Booking Enquiries and FAQ.

No. The cost of daily admission is £16.00 which you can purchase on the day. Considering what is on offer, is very good value for a day’s entertainment. If you want even better value for your money, why not become a member of the National Honey Show? From £27.00 via the Membership Subscription page. Payment taken by debit/credit cards. This will give you admission for all the three days, entitle you to a copy of the schedule, and allow you to vote at the National Council.

Yes. Your entry fee is included with Membership from £30 for all three days or Day Visitor pass at £18 which you can purchase here or at the show (accompanied children under 18 free of charge). It covers admission to the competitive classes exhibition, the trade / educational show and lectures. The trade / educational show is open: Thursday 12 to 6pm, Friday 9am to 6pm and Saturday 8.30am to 4.30pm.

Yes. tables will be available, but honestly, we do not recommend that you do that. There is a lot of movement going on at the entrance stirring up lots of dust. It is much better to do your final preparations at home. Judges would much prefer to see a bit of honey on the inside of the lid than a film of dust on the surface of your honey.

The situation at the moment is not entirely clear as the new regulations have been interpreted slightly differently by Trading Standards departments in many areas. If you are selling honey it is best to have your labels checked by your local office. For the purpose of the National Honey Show all classes requiring the exhibitors own labels must comply with Rule 24 (see schedule).

Thornes and Northern Bee Books have again most kindly offered to transport exhibits to and from the show. Get in touch with them. Or else do what a lot of other people do, and arrange for one member of their branch to transport all the branch exhibits by car, and then for the branch to pay the driver’s expenses. You could even arrange for your entries to be sent to the show via courier. Read the instructions and date limits in the schedule.

The last date for entry forms for the majority of classes is Monday 7th October.

Late entries may be made until the 14th October, but will incur an additional late entry fee of £10.00. Completed entry forms for classes 95-109 inclusive and 315-316 and 318, i.e. essays, videos, microscope slides and photographs must reach the Entries Secretary by 9th September. The actual entries for these classes need to be with the appropriate convenor as directed by the entries secretary by 23th September. No late entries will be permitted for these classes.

There is no need to “register”. You will need a day ticket, which can be purchased online here or on arrival at Sandown Park Racecourse. You pay £18.00 for each day’s admission, or £30.00 to become a member of the National Honey Show (see Membership Subscription), and this will entitle you to free admission all three days of the show.

Booking accommodation is entirely your responsibility.

Apply to the show Secretary, Fiona Matheson, who will advise you about the procedure. Use the Contact Email. We strongly recommend that you start to make your preparations in good time, and NOT to leave everything until the last few days. Cut off date for us to send letters of invitation is 1st September.

We are happy to send letters of invitation for up to four delegates.

For each of the delegates we need their:
  • Full name
  • Date of birth
  • Full address
  • Passport Number
  • Passport Valid from date
  • Passport Valid to date

I am afraid that is not possible. The National Honey Show is itself a charity, run entirely by voluntary and unpaid helpers. All our resources are used for staging the show each year, and we have no further funds available. As much as we would like to help you, I regret that the answer must be a definite no.

If you are bringing in a large quantity, you may well have problems, unless your country has exemption from the EU Council Directive 95/23/EC. I advise that you check up about this with HM Customs and Excise. If however, you are only bringing in a few jars in your hand-luggage – the sort of quantity you would bring as presents for your relatives – then there should be no problem.

Any interested beekeeper wishing to enter exhibits into the NHS from outside the UK should write to Fiona Matheson: Use the Contact Email.

I am afraid that we are not able to provide translators for other languages. This is beyond the show’s resources at the moment.

Workshop Booking FAQs

From midnight on the 1st September and closing one week before the event starts.

Tickets for Workshops sell out fast so you are encouraged to book online and not leave it to purchase at the Show; spare workshop tickets will be available for sale at the FRONT DESK in the main foyer, not from the Eclipse Pavilion.

NO, the booking system will not ask for this. Attending workshops is one of the benefits for National Honey Show members.

Check your SPAM or JUNK folders on your email account. You can login to Your Account, check your orders and print your tickets out from there.

The workshop reception will also have a full list of all the bookings.

If you check your ticket for the room number you can head straight there without passing through workshop reception.

The selected ticket delivery options are available for customers to choose when booking online.
1. E-Ticket: £0.00.
Tickets are available to print upon completion of the booking. Check you confirmation email for the printing link.

YES, add more than one ticket to your order and you will be asked for the names for each ticket on the booking.

Most workshops allow a maximum of three tickets per workshop on the one order. This is because spaces for popular workshops are limited. It would be unfair for a single person/association to make a bulk booking for all the tickets. If you want more tickets (within reason) you can make another purchase.

YES, If you make a booking and find you are unable to attend, you can make a request to cancel by sending an email to tech@honeyshow.co.uk. Please do this as soon as possible (before the 7th October) in order to free up the place for others.

The extra charges cover the cost of materials supplied.

NO, the National Honey Show volunteer staff have no way to reserve or book on your behalf.

National Council FAQs

The National Council is an advisory body to the National Honey Show with representatives from different Beekeepers Associations, and we hold a meeting of the National Council immediately after the National Honey Show AGM each year.

The Agenda and papers for the meeting are circulated to the members prior to the meeting.
